MLK-Day| from Takei Inspirations™

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

There is so much wisdom and truth within these 12 words!  I know I speak on the power of love quite often,  that’s because within love lies the power to overcome any and everything!  MLK showed a love for all mankind regardless of differences in ethnicity, race, religious beliefs, or gender. He fought for equal rights of African Americans and all minorities.

This is a day to remember a giant of our Nation’s history and a pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement. During his lifelong struggle for justice and equality, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave strong voice to the silent hopes of millions, offered a redemptive path for oppressed and oppressors alike, and led a Nation to the mountaintop!  We should also keep in mind that our journey is not yet complete.   We have an obligation to build on the success of past generations.  It is up to us to ensure that the justice system works equally for all people. We must work on  creating equality in the dignity of good jobs, decent wages, and quality of education.  I encourage each of you to do your part as we continually move closer to the nation that Dr. King spoke about in his I have a dream speech.

PlutoCase Product Review and Giveaway Contest

I absolute love taking photos and I love different ways I can showcase my photographs. One of the ways that I thought I would be able to showcase them was by customizing a phone case. Luckily, I know of a really cool company called PlutoCase.

I couldn’t wait to choose which pictures I would actually upload, but I wanted them to represent my photography style, as well as the things I love.

Here are the photos I chose:

ABOUT PlutoCase

I have been using my PlutoCase phone cases for the past month and I have enjoyed each and every one of them. I chose to use a different case everyday to check the durability, strength, and effectiveness of these cases. The website was also very easy to navigate. Initially, the site would not allow me to enter any data in the ordering fields, but once I notified the company, they were able to fix the issue immediately.

There was fast delivery for these my customized phone cases. They came in the mail about a week from ordering and that was only because I ordered it on a Thursday. If you place your order on a Monday, they would probably reach you by Friday, if not before. They were individually wrapped, protected. and in one piece, which I was thankful for.

I have been wearing each customized phone case on my Samsung Galax S5 and have enjoyed these cases thoroughly. I was so impressed by the PlutoCase company and how well my customized phone cases came out. They are the best I’ve seen for such a low cost.  I’ve had a few people ask  about my customized PlutoCase phone cases and I would definitely recommend them. I absolutely love how they turned out!

Here are shots of my phone cases:

COST: $33 Retail Value

iPhone 4/5c/5s/5/6 cases  & Samsung Galaxy S3/S4/S5 cases

The phone case is sturdy and durable. I have dropped my phone since using these cases a few time and have not had any cracks or breaks.

The photos that were used to customize my case, were virtually and almost perfectly the same color and quality.

The phone case was easy to place on my phone.

The phone case is slim and sleek.

Very high quality and durable.

The phone case gloss option is a bit slippery.

If you use your phone like I do, (which is a lot), the phone will slip out of your hand quite a bit.

Although the pictures I chose to upload turned out great, you have to be careful with the sizing and coloring of the pictures you choose. There is a wrap option for “wrapping” the picture around the phone case.

The matte phone cases tend to have a darker constrast or tint to them, so choose your photo wisely.

Definitely worth the purchase. These phone cases are high quality at a low cost. You can’t beat that!

They are offering my readers and viewers Promo Codes

It’s My Birthday! | A Year of Reflection

It’s 2015 and it’s the year that I turn 30 years old (the last time I will reveal my age so keep up lol) ! Of course, with the turn of another decade behind me, I’m reflecting over my past and future plans. There’s so much that I dreamed of accomplishing by now, you can read about some of those things here, but I’ve come to realize that there’s more to that when it comes to entering a new phase in your life.

This birthday marks to me, renewed womanhood. Accomplishing things that I’ve set for my life and actually achieving them. Facing life with a take charge attitude and assurance. Becoming a wife and a mother has helped guide me to become a better woman than I could ever think of, and entering my 30s with a new outlook for these areas of my life is what’s motivating me.

I’m looking forward to learning more about myself and what I’m capable of. I’m looking forward to enjoying things that I couldn’t even fathom in my teens, like buying my first home or starting my retirement. These are things that are important in life—not “TURNING UP” or buying Persian, Remy, or Indian Weave, or “knock off” Louboutin shoes. ‘

I’m a grown woman, with grown woman dreams and aspirations, and I’m looking forward to being a great example for my daughter.

Life+Adventures|Carving Pumpkins + Halloween| #NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo_1114_465x287_NOVThis Fall has been great so far! We’ve had so much fun with spending time with family and getting out and doing activities with our little one. There were a lot of arts and crafts and taking pictures outdoors, but this year was the first year my little one got to carve a pumpkin. It’s a little sad to say—but it’s also the first time I carved a pumpkin myself. Why didn’t anyone tell me how absolutely icky and sticky carving pumpkins would be? Needless to say, we had a really great time carving the pumpkins and even got to carve some really cool designs.

We carved pumpkins at my mother’s house and we drew the faces on the pumpkins before carving it out. I definitely see why some families choose to paint or decorate their pumpkins because it’s definitely time consuming and messy, especially for little ones. Jaydabug wanted little to nothing to do with the pumpkin but she loved the idea of it lol 🙂 (Our pumpkin is on the right, in the picture above) We also carved this really cool pumpkin design at my brother and sister in law’s home with a pumpkin carving design kit.

This Halloween was the first time our little one has been trick or treating. We talked about all of her favorite shows and characters and she finally decided on being Strawberry Shortcake. She has Strawberry Shortcakes movies, toys, and even soap, so it was only fitting that she got the costume for this Halloween.

It was going to be a cool and breezy night so we had to make some adjustments to her Halloween costume. It was made of very thin material, so we had her put on long sleeves underneath her dress, jeans over her tights, and a coat over her costume. I wasn’t concerned about if her costume would be unrecognizable, but more so concerned about how cold it would be (lower 50s), because I didn’t want her to get sick. Also, everywhere we went, people immediately recognized her as Strawberry Shortcake.

We ventured into a nearby neighborhood and we also visited a local church for a “Trunk or Treat” Event. Overall, we had a lot of fun and she got enough goodies to fill two of her little buckets. Of course she wanted to stay up all night, as if she was waiting on more candy (or presents) lol She had a few treats before bath and bed and she slept soundly, but unfortunately woke up with a cough and congestion. Next year, we will definitely plan a Halloween event ahead of time, or visit an event that is indoors if the weather is too cold.

Just In Case You Missed It: The Official Countdown to 30 Before 30

Previously Written (Jan. 15th 2014)

(Update at the Bottom of the Post)

It’s officially my 29th birthday today and I’m so excited for what’s in store for me this year! I’m claiming abundance and growth in my life this year and I’m going to try and seize every opportunity to move forward in my life!

I also share this special day with Martin Luther King Jr. and I always try and acknowledge his legacy on this day!

Happy Birthday MLK Jr. !

(January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968)

In light of my birthday, I wanted to join the bandwagon and commit to a 30 before 30 list for this year! I created this list with what I want to accomplish and what I could accomplish given the fact that I have a toddler at home.

So without further adieu…here’s my list

I will be scratching through each accomplishment and posting about it on the blog if I can

1.     Visit a winery

2.   Visit an orchard

3.   Go to a concert

4.   Get a glam makeup makeover

5.   Take my mom on a girl’s day out

6.   Family Vacation

7.    Day Spa Treatment

8.   Shoot a gun at a gun range

9.   Publish a Kindle book

10.Ride a horse

11.    Photo shoot for family portraits

12.  Lose 30lbs (lost 10lbs)

13.   A makeover photo shoot for myself

14.  Print and File Old photos (computer crashed before I could) 😦

15.  Go to an art exhibit opening

16.  Go to a runway show

17.  Attend a bridal show

18.  Upgrade my camera and website

19.  Crochet a blanket for my daughter (Started)

20.               Host a dinner party

21.  Get a new tattoo or piercing

22.                Design and sew a dress or shirt for myself

23.                Go on a romantic getaway with my husband

24.Take an art class

25.                Attend a blogging event/conference

26.                Run a 5k Race

27. Give to Charity

28.                Read 30 books

29.                Take a dance class

30.               Celebrate 30th birthday on a beach!

Although my intentions were good for making this list, I have unfortunately managed to only complete a few things. Some of the goals I have for this list are unrealistic for the time limit, since I am a stay at home and student. I’m looking forward to knocking these goals off my list for the remainder of the months and the next year moving forward. Making this list has helped me to have fun goals for things that I have always wanted to do. I’m looking forward to turning 30 and reaching another milestone in my life.

Have you made a list like this for a birthday? How successful were you in completing it?

Photography 101 Series| Part II: Understanding Your Camera Mode Settings

Welcome to the second installment of my new

Photography 101 Series: Understanding Your Camera Mode Settings!

This is basic beginner photography knowledge and tips that can help you on your photography journey—whether you are a blogger, photographer or hobbyist.

This series will be broken down in  3 parts and the first post can be found here of the breakdown of each subject in the series.

(Just In Case You Missed It: Part I: Understanding Exposure)

So lets begin…

Part II: Understanding Camera Mode Settings

  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Macro/Close-Up
  • Sport/Action
  • Night Scene
  • Movie Mode

Portrait Mode- This camera mode setting is best used when you want to focus on a single subject for a close up and personal portrait. A DSLR camera will generally choose a larger aperture (small f stop number), so that the focus will be more on the foreground or subject, than the background.

Landscape Mode-This camera mode setting is best used to capture wide open spaces for photographing nature, landscape and buildings. The camera will use a smaller aperture (large f stop number) to include as much of the foreground and background possible. This will also give you a large depth of field to help capture a wide scene of your landscape.

Macro/Close Up-This camera mode setting is best used when you want to photograph something (small or large)  up close. It’s generally used to shoot flowers, insects, and other objects. The camera will give you a very narrow or small depth of field, and you may need to use your tripod in order to keep your focus on the object. The flash or a lot of natural light is beneficial when shooting in this mode, as it will help to increase the focus on your object.

Sport/Action-This camera mode setting is best used when photographing moving subjects. Best to use when photographing a game or children, this setting helps to freeze the action by increasing the  shutter speed.

Night Mode- This camera mode setting is best used for night or low light situations. The camera will use a slower shutter speed to capture more of the background settings and will also use a flash to get the foreground details. Using a tripod will also help in decreasing blur when in this mode. Blur can be used to your advantage if used in party settings, because the blurring of party lights or dance floors in the background, add a cool effect.

Movie Mode-This camera mode setting allows you to record video (picture and sound) and offers a variety of settings to do it in. 144240, 360, 640, 720, 1080 resolution settings are the most common settings depending on the type of camera you have.

Cameras come with a variety of camera mode settings. The other camera mode settings might include, Museum, Party/Indoor, Beach, Snow, Cloudy Etc . The key is to use the correct settings in the correct moment.

What camera mode setting do you use the most?

Just In Case You Missed It: I won a NaBloPoMo Prize & What I’ve Learned About NaNoWriMo

It is officially the end of the NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo Writing Challenges and I will have to say that it has definitely been a hard one.

About My NaNoWriMo Experience…

I was totally and completely unprepared for the NaNoWriMo Writing Challenge. I did, however, find my novel that I was working on years ago and decide to continue writing it. I have actually only written about 10,000 words of it, but was VERY unsuccessful in retyping and entering it in on the web site, so officially, I’ve only written about 350 words. lol So I’m going to write about what I’ve learned and what I could’ve done to reach the 50,000 words for the NaNoWriMo Writing Challenge.

  • Have a clear vision of style of writing ( fiction, non fiction…etc)
  • Write out story line, plot and characters
  • Prepare writing ahead of time (preface or rough draft )
  • Join writing groups or clubs
  • Participate in NaNoWriMo Events for Networking and Inspiration

Check out my blogging friend who finished her NaNoWriMo Experience! Way to go girl!

About My NaBloPoMo Experience…

I have definitely tried my best in keeping up with writing on my blog daily, however, I lacked the motivation to write from the heart. I’d rather wait to post something meaningful than to post ramblings of my day, because let’s face it, I’m a SAHM and Student so my day to day is the least bit interesting. I liked the fact that I could’ve chose daily prompts to help my posts, but for some reason they were tasking for me mentally because I’m also studying very hard to graduate soon. My overall feeling about the NaBloPoMo experience is that I will definitely do it again and next time I will dedicate every single day to posting.

The greatest thing that came out of the November NaBloPoMo experience was that I was one of the winners of a prize for the November Contest! A Blog Her 2014 Conference Ticket to San Jose, California! So exciting! It was the best feeling to see that I won! How lucky could I be? 🙂

I haven’t decided if I’m going to sign up for the December NaBloPoMo, but it couldn’t hurt right? It’s all about getting those creative juices flowing and showing your love for writing and art with the world. I guess we will see 🙂

Tell Me…

What have you learned about yourself through these writing challenges?
