Inspiration|from Takei Inspirations™

Don’t be negative minded you’ll defeat yourself before you begin.
Release positivity into the atmosphere!

Today I just wanted to encourage everyone to remain positive.  Let your thoughts, words, and actions be the reflection of a positive attitude.  When life’s situations and circumstances come against you don’t focus on the problems focus on the solutions.  If you start to feel the weight of stress on your shoulders remind yourself that so many others in this world would love to trade their sorrows for yours.  Outlooks determine outcomes I want mine to be positive what about you?

MLK-Day| from Takei Inspirations™

Martin-Luther-King-Jr-

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

There is so much wisdom and truth within these 12 words!  I know I speak on the power of love quite often,  that’s because within love lies the power to overcome any and everything!  MLK showed a love for all mankind regardless of differences in ethnicity, race, religious beliefs, or gender. He fought for equal rights of African Americans and all minorities.

This is a day to remember a giant of our Nation’s history and a pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement. During his lifelong struggle for justice and equality, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave strong voice to the silent hopes of millions, offered a redemptive path for oppressed and oppressors alike, and led a Nation to the mountaintop!  We should also keep in mind that our journey is not yet complete.   We have an obligation to build on the success of past generations.  It is up to us to ensure that the justice system works equally for all people. We must work on  creating equality in the dignity of good jobs, decent wages, and quality of education.  I encourage each of you to do your part as we continually move closer to the nation that Dr. King spoke about in his I have a dream speech.

The Memories

The cultivating of the soil the harvesting of the crops the manipulation of the mind over and over they played out in real life though questions still run wild the what ifs and the whys?

The how could they be so cruel? Their hearts must be dark, desolate, and full of deceit.

The screams and the shouts the scene of a thousand lashes and a whip that cracks and rips and shreds the melanin filled skin until flesh opens up and blood is spilled forth then
the manhood falls buried along with the broken spirit the tormenting visions of a mother forever divided from her very own those she held so close to her beating heart she has birthed them and she has nursed then now they’ve reached right in and pulled them apart.

A heart full of love now filled with sorrows the screams of agony, defeat, and loss reign in the night
Does time heal all wounds?  Does time heal all wounds?

Healing comes from the Most High it rains down from the sky it refreshes the broken spirit it restores righteousness and brings order into what was once devastated.

Now watch them regenerate and regrow they are renewed their beauty is revealed
they are growing into the future and a life filled with hope.

They’ve got skills they’ve got class they’re creative and the ancestors dreams can now come to pass.  The wounds of the broken spirit are now a thing of the past.

Black History| Langston Hughes

James Langston Hughes

African-American Poet, Author, Social Activist

LangstonHughes

As a poet and writer I felt it was fitting that I dedicate my Black History Month posts to my favorite African-American writers, poets, and authors.

James Langston Hughes born February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. As a result of his parents divorce his grandmother raised him.  At the age of thirteen, Hughes moved to Lincoln, Illinois, to live with his mother and her new husband.  It was in Lincoln that he began writing poetry. After graduating from high school, he spent a year in Mexico with his father followed by a year at Columbia University in New York City. Over the years he held several odd jobs including assistant cook, laundry worker and busboy.  Langston Hughes also traveled to Africa and Europe working as a seaman. In November 1924, he moved to Washington, D.C. Hughes first book of poetry, The Weary Blues, was published.  He finished his college education at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania in 1927 and in 1930 his first novel, Not Without Laughter, won the Harmon gold medal for literature.

Hughes is particularly known for his colorful portrayals of black life in America from the twenties through the sixties. He wrote novels, short stories and plays, as well as poetry, and is also known for his engagement with the world of jazz and the influence it had on his writing creating what is known as jazz poetry, today known as spoken word.

Hughes stressed a racial consciousness and cultural nationalism devoid of self-hate that united people of African descent and Africa across the globe and encouraged pride in their diverse black folk culture and black aesthetic.

On May 22, 1967 Langston Hughes died of complications from prostate cancer.

Here is one of my favorite poems from Hughes.

I, TooJames Langston Hughes

I, too, sing America.  I am the darker brother.

They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes, But I laugh, And eat well, And grow strong.  Tomorrow, I’ll be at the table When company comes.

Nobody’ll dare Say to me, “Eat in the kitchen,” Then.

Besides,  They’ll see how beautiful I am And be ashamed—

I, too, am America.

Black History| Paul L. Dunbar

Paul Laurence Dunbar

African American Poet, Novelist, Playwrite

Slide1

As a poet and writer I felt it was fitting that I dedicate my Black History Month posts to my favorite African American writers, poets, and authors.

The son of former slaves Paul Laurence Dunbar was born June 27, 1872 in Dayton, Ohio.  His own father had escaped from slavery in Kentucky and served in the Massachusetts 55th Regiment during the Civil War.
What I love most about much of Dunbar’s work is the use of the dialect associated with the southern states of his time.  Paul Laurence Dunbar wrote his first poem at the age of 6 and by the time he was 16 some of his poems were being published in local newspapers.  His literary style is described as linguistically colorful with a brilliant rhetorical structure. Dunbar was prolific writer during his relatively short career he wrote a dozen books of poetry, four books of short stories, four novels, lyrics for a musical, and a play.  His first collection of short stories Folks From Dixie (1898), my personal favorite, it is  sometimes described as a “harsh examination of racial prejudice.”

Paul Laurence Dunbar died from tuberculosis on February 6, 1906 at the age of 33.  Here is one of my favorite Dunbar poems of course it’s about love!

Invitation To LovePaul Laurence Dunbar

COME when the nights are bright with stars
or when the moon is mellow;

Come when the sun his golden bars
Drops on the hay-field yellow.
Come in the twilight soft and gray,
Come in the night or come in the day,
Come, O love, whene’er you may,

You are sweet, O Love, dear Love,
You are soft as the nesting dove.
Come to my heart and bring it rest
As the bird flies home to its welcome nest.

Come when my heart is full of grief
Or when my heart is merry;
Come with the falling of the leaf
Or with the redd’ning cherry.
Come when the year’s first blossom blows,
Come when the summer gleams and glows,
Come with the winter’s drifting snows,
And you are welcome, welcome.

Inspirational Poetry| You

You

Don’t lose sight of yourself trying to become someone that You are not.

Often times it’s the very essence of your true self that’s left blowing in the wind lost and confused trying to reconnect with what’s left of a stranger who used to be You
Being yourself is easy once You have accept who You are not
Because who You are is what the world is in need of most the world needs what You have got.

To pretend to be another is to become some reproduction some counterfeit copy a cheap imitation and your true grace is being wasted
Be who You are let your inner lights shine bright let your ideas in this life soar and take flight as You continually gain knowledge growing in wisdom and insight
What the real You has to offer gives the Universe great delight.

Every one of us is unique in the joys we give in the songs we sing
Sing your song sing it in your key release your true self receive your destiny just as it’s meant to be You.

Agape Love| from Takei Inspirations™

Conquer the devil with a little thing called love -Bob Marley

I truly love the man the legend that was Bob Marley regardless of any faults he may have had his life exemplified living in love.

Have you ever considered the power of love?  There are several types of love but the love I speak of  is called Agape love.  This love unconditional it sees beyond the outer appearances and accepts the recipient just as he or she is, regardless of their flaws or mistakes. This is the type of love that I strive to have for my fellow mankind.  The word agape is a love in the verb form meaning it is the love demonstrated by your behavior towards another person.  It is a commitment and definitive decision to love.

Love has the power to cover every mistake any of us has ever made in life.  When you sow love into the life of another you can fully expect to receive love as a harvest!

Inspirational Poetry| I am Happy By Takei Inspirations™

I am Happy

The fullness of happiness is hard to contain when you have it you can sense and it becomes easy to explain I’m full of this happiness and a joy that covers me in a glory and a love that does the same.

When love is visited upon me I find it impossible not to reply in like kind to share it is to perpetuate it and to receive back more of this love since  I’ve been told we reap what we sow.

It is hard to image a life filled with more satisfaction when I think of the love and the joy that I feel when I realize that mercy said no to the tribulation trying to take me down again and again.  I am happy visualizing simply me with no need to create images of one who isn’t me

Happiness not revealed through natural materialistic things but through the joy that living a good life brings.

Given without stress no doubts no tears given to me freely out of love minus any fear and I am happy.

Thankfulness|from Takei Inspirations™

There’s always something to be thankful for!

The Thanksgiving holiday is upon us once again.  It’s the time of year when many people take inventory of the things they are most thankful for.  Another year is coming to an end and everyone regardless of the past 11 months can look at their lives and find something to be thankful for.  Let us be thankful in advance be thankful because we know without a doubt that whatever storm may come it won’t last long and joy will come in the morning.  The morning isn’t necessarily what’s labeled with A.M  on the clock!  The morning comes when we wake up!  Being thankful can help wake us up because,  a thankful heart is a happy heart.  Consider being thankful for something that you might otherwise take for granted.  Thankfulness will put that seemingly insignificant part of your life into a whole new light.  Recently I’ve been thankful for freedom.  As Americans we often take freedom so lightly not giving it a second thought.  I’m thankful for my freedom and for those who made it possible.  I’m awake the morning is here!

What are you thankful for?

“Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord for he is good!  His faithful love endures forever.” -Psalms 106:1 (NLT)
